Mains Energisers should be installed by mounting on a wall, under cover and out of the reach of children. It is also advisable to mount the energiser in a position where it is less likely to be damaged by machinery and away from flammable materials. All Stafix energisers are supplied with detailed mounting instructions, which should be read before Installation.

Once the energiser has been mounted, connect the earth system to the green earth terminal marked by the symbol . Correct earthing is important. Connect the red terminal (or yellow ½ voltage terminal) to the fence line with leadout cable.

Battery Energisers should be mounted on a post or stand which is not accessible to the animals. Connect the red (positive+) clip to the positive battery terminal and the black (negative -) clip to the negative battery terminal. As with mains energisers, you require a good earth system. Install a good earth close to the energiser and connect this to the green earth terminal on the Energiser. Connect the red power terminal to the fence line.

Battery energisers which run off internal dry cell batteries e.g. Stripgrazers, can be connected directly to the fence wire. For best results push an earth rod into the ground and connect to the earth terminal on the energiser. If there is insufficient power at the end of the fenceline, position the energiser in the centre of the fenceline.

Solar Powered Energisers should be positioned near the centre of the fence line, away from shadow or animal contact. In the southern hemisphere face the panels north and in the northern hemisphere face the panels south. The panels should be se at an angle that maximises the suns rays; this will vary depending on the latitude. As a general rule, solar panels should be set with a tilt angle equal to the latitude plus 10% or 15%. For the maximum efficiency it may be necessary to adjust the tilt angle of the panels at different times of the year.

Having the panels on an angle also assists in keeping the panels clean, but the panel should still be cleaned frequently.

• Solar panels should be bolted to a mounting post which holds the panel firmly in the correct position.
• Keep the Energiser, battery and solar panel as close together as is practical.
• Connect the panel to the battery and then the energiser to the battery. Do not connect the energiser directly to the panel.
• Keep the energiser and the battery under cover and out of the weather if possible.
• Install a good earth system.
